Invacare Gardening Angels Volunteer Day

Thursday 12 November saw the Gardening Angels out on their first mission - Phyllis' Garden Clean Up.

Invacare employees can take one day paid volunteer leave each year, in addition to annual and other leave. They are encouraged and supported to get involved in local communities and charities.

Jo, Elaine, Ange and Michelle donned their best gumboots and armed with weed eaters, mowers and secateurs set about giving an older person's garden a makeover.

Mowing the lawns
Our recipient Phyllis, had broken her arm and was unable to care for her garden. She had the old style "full section" which was in need of some TLC.
Weeding

We began by weeding and replanting out the front, and then after a bit of persuasion she let us get out the back. One section in particular was very overgrown and she thought it was too big a job for ladies! Elaine and Michelle both had mowers going as the lawn had to be cut twice and Jo and Ange started on the weeds out the back.

It became apparent that the wool pack we had taken to collect the weeds was not going to be sufficient so Jo arranged a ute at very short notice. Thank you to Andy's Motorhome Repairs.

Once Phyllis was dressed, the lawns were cut twice and the washing was hung out and all 4 of us converged on

the Wandering Dew. We were up for the battle and after a long stand-off, the Angels prevailed. Once we could not fit anymore on the ute Jo and Elaine made the glamorous trip to the local tip.

Unfortunately Phyllis had to go to the hospital for an appointment before we had finished, but on her departure she said "my garden has never looked so good - I love it".

It was a great day out in the sun, helping another person.
