On Friday, 6 November, six volunteers from Invacare spent the day helping out with the Special Olympics Splish Splash Ribbon Day, at the Westwave Aquatics Centre in Henderson. Invacare employees can take one day paid volunteer leave each year, in addition to annual and other leave. They are encouraged and supported to get involved in local communities and charities. The volunteer meeting kicked off at 9:30am, and everyone was divided into teams of 2. Karl, Sarah, Andre and Ebony helped out with timekeeping, while Emily and Krystal were in charge of marshalling the swimmers into the correct events and lanes.

Everyone said they were impressed by the swimmers’ enthusiasm to get involved, and found the atmosphere of encouragement contagious. There was plenty of cheering and high fives going around! “It was great to see how much fun they had, and you could see the swimmers really felt a real sense of achievement from competing,” said Assistant Product Manager, Andre Wagenaar. The highlight of the day was when Invacare was presented with a Thank You card made by one of the students, Raj. “We were just really honoured to have been part of the event,” said Sarah Foley, Accounts Payable.
